Automotive Microprocessor-Based Tightening System

AUTOMOTIVE MICROPROCESSOR-BASED TIGHTENING SYSTEM

A series of automotive controllers providing full closed loop-control with features like multiple torque strategies, digital display, and parameter transfer was in need of software and firmware development. These controllers have full communication capability using Ethernet, RS232, Fieldbus, CAN and standard I/O. Units are programmed with either the Parameter Transfer Key or via a PC running control monitoring and configuration software. Controllers self-identify and operate a series of tightening tools. PSI team members were responsible for the development of new strategy for a a dynamically configurable system that controls the real-time capture and analysis of torque, angle, and other features at the micro-second level. Enhancements provided detail analysis of the results to a controller for further analysis control and feedback to a master system and PLC. The system consisted of four individual development environments over a networked environment with multiple processors and controls.

How PSI Helped:

  • Performed research before development
  • Provided troubleshooting and recreated bugs
  • Wrote a simulator to ensure proper performance
  • Presented final product with client
