Relay Line Protection & Breaker Control System
A leader in power automation technologies had relays made to lower voltage when connecting or disconnecting to a higher voltage. The embedded real-time relay system provided protection of power transmission lines, power generation plants, distribution substations, and others systems from energy faults and failures. The universal relay / breaker system provides sub-millisecond trip capabilities, fault analysis, and multiple communications. The company needed help increasing the cutoff speed without causing damage to the equipment in the general proximity. This problem occurred due to their current system’s lack of flexibility, so PSI redeveloped the software on the same hardware platforms, made it universal on the hardware platform, and lowered the cutoff time from 40-60 milliseconds to 4 milliseconds. By rewriting the software the response time increased, the functionality of the relay increased, more data points could be monitored, and more communication channels could be maintained with other equipment.
